Ogden, UT (ABC 4 News) Alysse Wood's front window provided a incredible view for the shootout on Wednesday in Ogden. Her house is two hundred feet away from suspect Matthew David Stewart's home and there is absolutely nothing to obstruct her view.
She says when bullets started flying that was a mixed blessing. "I started hearing popping noises and then I started to hear sirens too." Wood looked out her window and could see all kinds of commotion - a front row to seat to the hell that was breaking loose. But she also realized - with nothing between her window and the madness - a stray bullet could come her way. "I was a little nervous." Tons of stuff was going through my mind. She says she began watching from the corner of the window while the rest of her body was behind the brick wall.
Wood says she had no idea what was really happening at the time. Since then, she and all of us know the sad story that was transpiring across the street from her. Agent Jared Francom had been fatally shot and five other members of the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force had been shot and wounded. A few minutes later Stewart was in handcuffs and in police custody.
The violence had stopped. The shooting had stopped. However, now when Wood looks out her window she is reminded of it all because police are still here in her once quiet neighborhood. "We'll be glad when its settled and done." While she appreciates the police work and the investigation, she says it will be nice when things get back to normal.
Fellow neighbor Josh Kindall agrees. He says he has no problem with the police. His problem is the line of non-stop spectators. "There are a lot of people who keep driving through the area and they don't need to be here. It's our neighborhood." Kindall calls it a "good" neighborhood and he wants it back.
