SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – When the FBI and other federal agencies raided three offices associated with the CC Brown Law Office on Tuesday, a former employee replied “About time.”
The former CC Brown employee agreed to talk to ABC 4 News if we wouldn’t share her name or picture. She tells us after working there just a short time she “thought something was up with how they were dealing with people.” She says she witnessed what she would consider to be unfair or biased business practices. “You can put two and two together. She says “some people were being charged more” for the same services.
And she says clients facing foreclosure would only get help if they never missed any payment. She says even if they had paid four thousand dollars toward their delinquency and fees, files would disappear and paper work they needed “would disappear” if a client missed just one fee payment.
The former worker says she started to notice that people with “Two and three hundred thousand dollar homes” were charged “a lot more” than people with homes under one hundred thousand dollars. That led her to ask a superior some questions. “I said how come some people have to pay more for services?” She says her superior would dance around the issue and “not really answer the question.”
She says that her questions got her in trouble and was told she wasn’t the right kind of person for CC Brown. Something she agreed with then and still agrees with today.
No criminal charges have been filed in connection with the investigation, according to the Salt Lake City FBI office.
ABC 4 has also learned that some unhappy clients had started a Facebook page calling CC Brown Law Services a scam. And we have learned that the Utah Better Business Bureau has given CC Brown an F rating, and that there were 55 unresolved complaints from consumers.
The FBI said that anyone who has been working with the business on a mortgage modification and would like information can contact a toll free number established by the FBI at 1-877-236-8947 press option 2.
