SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A massive meteor lit up the sky overnight across Utah, and people who saw it are sharing their experience.

“I saw the meteor. It was so bright I thought a car was pulling into the driveway and the lights were shinning threw the window lighting up the inside of the house. I ran to west side of the house and looked out my window and saw the streak in the sky. It gave off a greenish light and everything was lit up like broad day light. About four to five minutes later I herd the sonic boom.”

Calvin, Grantsville

“Just after midnight on November 18, 2009 at about 12:10 a.m., I and my family saw a bright burst of light in the sky. It was red, blue, and a white light. It traveled north to south and just disappeared. We live in Lindon and we saw it out a window that is facing west.”

Susan, Lindon

“At about 12:30 a.m., I was outside jogging when I saw a bright ball coming down out of the sky. It lit up the whole western sky and then fell straight down leaving a tail that was so bright I can still see it when I close my eyes.”

Julie, Kaysville

“I was just driving home to Mona from Nephi, just after midnight. The sky lit up blue like it was daytime for probably 30 seconds, scared me to death! I thought I was going crazy or something. I looked out to the west and saw a HUGE ball of fire; it disappeared before it hit the ground. About 5 minutes later there was a huge boom.”

Tessa, Mona

“My friend and I witnessed a tremendous bright light, in the western sky. For a second the object lit the Cedar Valley sky like it was day. Then a brilliant streak of light followed. It was like a slow moving lighting, similar to an enormous magnesium flare. This lasted for several seconds. My friend Bryan and I were talking about it for about six minutes, when we heard a deep explosion that could be heard inside the car. We opened the door and could still hear the low frequency thud pulsating. We could feel the vibrations of the ground. Which was the cause of great concern for the safety of people. It looked like it struck the desert out by Dugway, but I am sure it was much further away because speed travels at 761 miles per hour at sea level. We didn’t have an exact time. But somewhere between 76 miles and 150 miles away. Probably hit Nevada. I hope no one was hurt that would be terrible.”

Stan, Cedar Valley

I live in Park City, Utah. I didn't actually see the meteor, but saw the light flash through my window and could actually feel some heat. I was glad to hear this is what it was and glad I witnessed it.

Dear Eyewitnesses: We are a meteorite hunting and recovery team and are requesting any detailed reports of this fireball. In order to aid in a possible recovery of meteorites, please include 1) direction you saw the fireball from your location (not the direction you thought the meteor was traveling) 2) your location 3) did you hear a rumble or boom? 4)was the boom delayed from the flash or immediately after? Etc.. Please send us an email at info@historicmeteorites.com with any detailed reports. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as we are ramping up for a possible hunt soon. Thank you!

We were traveling back from Page, Az and saw a huge bright light in the sky traveling toward Neveda, around 12:30am. After watching 2012, I thought this was it. Milinda, Tuba City, Az

I was at work when I saw a huge bright flash of light that lit up the entire sky for at least 15 seconds. I had no idea what was going on. Then I remembered the meteor shower, truly amazing!!! -Jamie, Logan, UT

My husband and I were just lying in our bed with the lights off, when all of a sudden our bedroom lit up and the light was glimmering. First we thought it was headlights shining into our window, but our bedroom is too high and out of range. We flew to our window to witness a huge bright white ball with orange sparks coming from it! It seemed so close! We lay there in our bed and we were both contemplating what it could have been. I mentioned it could have been a meteor, but my husband was in disbelief that that's what it could have been. Turns out that's what it was!!! Holy cow!!! That was AMAZING!!! Stacy Child Hooper
