SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A worried mother in Spanish Fork is breathing a sigh of relief. Her daughter went missing early Thursday morning, but now she's back safe at home. Her story can be a helpful reminder for parents who find themselves in a similar situation.
5 year old Cadence Jones went missing Thursday around 2 a.m. from her home in Spanish Fork. The girl, her mother, and a family friend were leaving on a trip to Las Vegas. When her mother put her in the car, then went back into the house, the family friend took off with the girl. Police issued an amber alert, it since has been called off.
It turns out the whole thing was a misunderstanding. The family friend, Mark Woodland, came back with the girl two hours later. He said he went to pick up another friend for their trip. When he arrived the friend was with him. Apparently the mom didn’t know anything about it.
If you’re a parent and you're child is missing here’s what experts at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recommend you do:
First things first, search the house, closets, under the beds, etc. See if you can find your child yourself.
If you can't find them, call police immediately. The Spanish Fork mother did exactly that, and police said that's a big help. Every second counts.
When you call you want to give police as much information as possible, name, birth date, height, weight, anything you can think of. The better the description, the better chances you have of finding them.
Next, request your child's name be put on the National Crime Information Center Missing Person File.
Finally, call 1-800-THE-LOST, and report your missing child to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
