WEST WENDOVER, Nev. (ABC 4 News) - Police say a man who stole one care and tried to steal two others was caught and arrested in Utah on Thursday.
Police say two separate reports of attempted vehicle break-ins at a casino parking lot coincided with the theft of a car from a residence in West Wendover Thursday morning.
Police say the first attempted break-in happened at approximately 6:08 a.m.
The second attempt in which a car was stolen happened at around 8:00 a.m.
Police say the third attempt happened just after 9:00 a.m. in the same casino parking lot.
Police say investigators involved in the series of reports conferred about the similarity in incidents and obtained surveillance video from the casino that showed the break-in attempts.
With the assistance of Utah Highway Patrol, police say the stolen vehicle was located on Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County.
In speaking with the Utah Highway Patrol and Salt Lake City Police Department investigators, police say the suspect that was observed attempting to steal the two vehicles in the parking lot, was subsequently found in possession of the stolen vehicle from the West Wendover residence.
Police identified the man as 20-year-old Eric Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, who was arrested for multiple related offenses and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail by Utah authorities.
The West Wendover Police Department said they will continue its investigation into the incidents and will present reports to the Elko County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution review.
