EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC4 News) – Dozens of volunteers are creating a new room for an Eagle Mountain teenager, after burglars left the home damaged and vandalized.
Staci Butler, mother of 13-year-old Kira, said the mini home makeover is a surprise.
“I can’t wait to see her face because I know she is going to be so happy,” Butler said.
Butler’s emotions are much different from three weeks ago. Their Eagle Mountain home was broken into and trashed.
The vandals left urine and feces on Kira’s bed. They also carved crude words into home furnishings, put trash in toilets, and sprayed a blue silicone all over the house.
“People can do terrible things,” Butler said.
The Butler family didn’t ask for any help, but donations started to pour in. The family has already received a mattress for Kira and a home security system from Vivint.
About 70 people have a hand in the makeover of Kira’s room. Organizer Loretta Brower said she didn’t know the Butler’s until the house was vandalized.
Brower organized the project and said the volunteers have been overwhelmingly supportive.
“I don’t even know how to express how amazing everybody has been,” Brower said.
The room is painted purple, Kira’s favorite color.
“She doesn’t know anything about it yet,” Butler said. “It’s going to be a Christmas surprise.”
Despite what happened to Kira’s room, Butler has faith her daughter will create new memories in the revamped room thanks to the volunteers.
“It’s such a huge gift,” Butler added. “I can’t thank them enough.
The room is scheduled to be revealed to Kira Saturday.
