SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The clerk in the tiny Utah town of Apple Valley says preliminary results show residents have voted 167 to 115 against dissolving the town government.
A total of 300 ballots were cast by the time polls closed Tuesday night. Voters were asked to decide whether or not to dissolve the town, which was organized in 2004.
Some residents say Apple Valley hasn't been able to provide basic services since it was organized in 2004. But others feared disincorporation could leave the town open to annexation by a nearby polygamist community.
Apple Valley clerk Nathan Bronemann says of the 300 votes, 18 provisional ballots have not been counted. The county will decide whether or not to count those votes, but they wouldn't change the outcome of the vote.
