SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) - There is a lot of working going on in the Capitol right now, but there was a break Wednesday as they honored the firefighters protecting Utah.

2012 was a very rough fire year. Thew worst in year. More than 1500 wildfires burned Utah land.

Fred Johnson, Central Utah Fire Manager, told ABC 4 News "Summer 2012 was a pretty historic summer for us."

While it could have been worse, it wasn't thanks to more than 2000 Utah firefighters fighting fires.

Wednesday morning about twenty firefighters received a thank you for all of them.

Firefighters stood in front of Utah Lawmakers as they were recognized for their service and sacrifice.

Johnson said, "There are sacrifices from their own lives. Family plans and anything on their schedule gets put to the side when a fire occurs."
