EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A group of local homeowners is accusing a national homebuilder of not fixing problems with their homes, and they came to ABC 4 for help.

Richmond American Homes is based in fourteen states and earns millions of dollars each year. In Utah alone, they’ve built 21 developments. However, a group of residents in two of those subdivisions say they have a long list of repairs that have gone ignored.

Homeowners tell ABC 4 that their problems allegedly began within the first year, and they believe their issues should have been covered by the warranty.

Eagle Mountain homeowner Lori Gilson says her home has several issues: water damage in the roof, a drafty fireplace, no insulation over the garage, the house wired to the bathroom, but her biggest issue is a driveway falling apart.

Nevertheless, Lori isn’t the only one complaining. A few doors down from Lori Gilson, Tim Lindsey says he found small cracks beginning on his counter top. And neighbor Jerilynn Phillips says her fence has blown over several times and she’s scared for the safety of her four children.

Homeowners ABC 4 spoke to in the Highlands subdivision say the biggest issue is that they believe their warranty hasn’t been held. “They don’t return phone calls, e-mails and if they do show up they tell you why it’s not covered under warranty.” Lori told ABC 4, so we decided to take action.

ABC 4 took a certified and independent home inspector, Al Rickard from All-Points Inspections to take a look at the damages. At Lori’s home, Al found air leakage around the window, and the possible beginnings of a mold problem in the garage.

ABC 4 went to the Richmond American Homes Utah headquarters. They are promising change and say they will help people. However, homeowners need to go online and fill out a form to let them know about the problems.

Late Monday afternoon, ABC 4 found that the homeowners were getting results. Richmond Homes is responding to neighbors and the Gilson family by promising them they’ll fix their home.

I just wanted to post a reply to the Ivory booster who makes the comment, "did you ever try to contact Ivory..." I wouldn't be nearly so angry if I hadn't been lied to, blown off, and in general insulted by the Ivory warranty people. The most recent thing is our front step broke off the house and has sunk 4 inches. I called Ivory, their answer, "your warranty has expired." I was angry as you might guess. I told them what I thought of their quality and their customer service. They volunteered to come out and look at it. "You are out of warranty, out of the goodness of our heart we will pay $200 toward the $400 it will cost to fix" ..our poor quality work. I told them thanks, but no thanks. If they don't care about the quality of their work and they want their product to be known by the poor quality and the unhappy excustomers, so be it. I would never buy another Ivory home, I would never recommend Ivory homes and I now know that companies that you think would be decent due to their "community" ties are no better than outside companies without those ties. Design good, materials fair, workmanship poor, customer service nil. That's Ivory homes.

DON'T BUILD WITH MOUNTAIN VISTA HOMES!! ASK ME WHY!!! I built 3 homes with them and I'm EXTREMELY UNSATISFIED. I've had Soooo many issues I'm tired of asking them to fix them. My basement windows have not been sealed, water and bugs come in. My deck is falling apart. My side yard has sunk 2 1/2 feet. AC ducts are full of holes, My neighbors kitchen floor is sagging several inches. My driveway settled 5-6 inches and spawled really bad. I took them to small claims court and won, they appealed and I lost, OUT OF WARRANTY. Judge Henroid put a statement on the judgement "this is unfortunate because the Defendant (MTN. VISTA) clearly failed to do the Concrete work in an acceptable or workmanlike manner" I put a 4'x8' lighted sign in my front yard and they've filed a lawsuit against me! They quote "Customers First" yeah right. The owner of MTN Vista tried to force me to change my landscaping 6 months AFTER I closed on my home. I had to call the POLICE to keep them from killing my grass and putting white 4inch river rock in my drainage swell!! They sent me an e-mail, "apperently I don't understand the delicate art of sacrasm. Wish i could post a pic of my sign, I'll show you sarcasm. I know have a for sale sign in front of my nice new home that says "FIXER UPPER" in large print. I'll be changing my sign soon just to keep it fresh!! Two can play this game. When we built our "Executive" home, the advertising and requirements said 4000 sq ft minimum, tile or wood flooring, solid surface countertops. Now they are building much smaller homes with sheet vinyl flooring, and formica counters. Mtn Vista said THEY' LL build whatever they want on their lots!!

I am also a Richmond American Homeowner. I have had multiple issues with my house and they NEVER fixed the ones that I have been lingering since 2008. They told me that since Santaquin doesn't have Richmond American anymore that there is nothing they can do. I repeatedly put in a request and I AM NOT GETTING ANY RESULTS, NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL!!!! I am tired of paying $300,000 for a home that is not in proper shape. I email them once a month and they call back, tell me someone is coming and I have yet to have the stucco fixed on my garage, my floor fixed in my bedroom where the subfloor is coming up, the kickboard under the counter in both my kitchen and master bath and I have repeatedly asked about the height of the front porch where if it is over 30-something inches it is suppose to have a railing, they never did that or the hand rail in my garage. It is a safety issue and required if the height is over the allowable height. When I purchased the house, I noticed the linoleum in my kitchen had saw markes, holes, and paint on it. I asked to have it replaced and they told me no. I didn't put that stuff in the floor, so why can't I have it replaced? They won't give me any answers except that since Richmond American doesn't go any further south than Lehi so there is nothing they can do. It doesn't help if you put in a request because they won't come to do anything except to tell you there is nothing they can do. Alot of the people in my development are very outraged because we didn't have any warranty people out in this area for the first year and a half after purchase because the guy went to the war and Richmond American didn't replace him, so we haven't has any results or communication so that our warranties should be honored since they ignored us.

I recently put a large down payment on a home to be built by Richmond American homes. My wife Julie and I explained to them we planned on putting an R V pad next to the home and possibly adding a garage when we could afford it latter. and that we wanted them to move the house plans over a few feet so that it would be easier to back my 28'x12' tall 9' wide, boat next to our new home. They happily took our money., and asked us to pick out all of the amenities. A month later , We found out on our own with no help from Richmond Homes that there are 25 pages of restrictions,(CC and R's) ,and one of them( page 17) going into fine detail that we can not park any kind of trailer on or near our property unless it is in a garage, Richmond homes said that they will only build a 24' third car garage that is only 9' tall, This is not acceptable, I told them in the beginning before they took our money that I had a 28' 12' tall boat and other RV"s that I would be parking on my property. Channel 4 news did a very long segment on there news cast last week about Richmond American Homes. There were people in tears. because of the frustrations and wrongful actions caused by Richmond American homes. Thank you Kent and Julie Hampton please call us any time @ 801-673-4037 and or email us advhealthtech@yahoo.com

Hello, I work in construction, for years in the big building booms state wide. I have seen with some contract builder companies, the bottom profit is more important than the quality no matter what they sell story wise to the buyer. I do drywall, we are underbid by the lowest cheepest usualy illeagle workers who are also abused by the contractors pay wise. I think if they use poor quality drywall companies who dont care for quality what about the rest of the subs who build these homes. Poor electric, plumbing, framing, foundations, cement, roofs, the list goes on. The goal, quality does NOT mean much. Proffit does. The saying is "looks good from our house" It is about time contractor builders have to face the music for asking tremendous Pay for low quality. Been going on 17yrs that I know of in Utah. Even here in Richfield utah, there were town homes built over a land fill. Now people buy these town homes and have them cracking, falling apart looks like poor foundation / ground shifting thier 1st year. Have heard of it in the town homes out of Lehi years ago towards the Eagle mountain project (forget the name of the place but they have a golf course there) Some of these same problems. But its Thanks for your cash, your problem is routine. Poor or NO business ethics. There are some small companies who still do quailty in all trades, and some builders. But the bigger a builder then less quality control. Good luck in your fights.

There are some very good builders out there. It is too bad I cannot put MOUNTAIN VISTA HOMES in that category. A warranty is worthless if they do not honor it and try every avenue to try and get out of making it right. Promising and promoting one way and doing it another way - contrary to their "customers" best interests only hurts their reputation. Builders are financially stressed right now, but if they are in it for the long haul with satisfied customers, they need to do right with the home buyers.

I am one who purchased a Richmond American Home! Our neighborhood is the same as several others. The Driveway is however the hot topic for us. There have been several attempts to have this problem corrected with zero success. I was wondering if anyone has tips or suggestions of how to go about getting our problems fixed. Should we have a news crew come look at the 20-30 homes in our neighborhood who are experiencing this same problem.
