TOOELE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - People in a Tooele neighborhood said the kids using a city skate park have gotten out of control. A viewer emailed ABC 4 asking us to take action, writing, “Residents have been continuously disturbed with speeders, vandalism, littering and after hours gatherings.

The skate park on Timpie Road has been there for seven years and many say it’s a good place for kids to play and exercise. But the park is also causing problems for some nearby residents.

One resident who didn’t want to be identified said, “Starting at seven, eight o’clock at night just before dark the kids pull up here and turn up their stereos and they’re fighting with each other.”

The park has also been a magnet for graffiti. Carole Rawlings said, “We don’t appreciate the graffiti, the language that’s used over there, the loud noise.”

The fed up residents want a fence around the park and more monitoring. We took those requests to City Hall and asked to speak with the mayor. He was unavailable for an interview, and officials with Parks and Recreation were out of the office.

We did speak with Lt. Paul Wimmer with Tooele City Police Department. He said they are working within the department to get surveillance equipment to the area, and they’ve dedicated an officer to graffiti crimes.

The upset residents have started a petition. They told ABC 4 that if this issue becomes more of a battle than what it already is, they want to be prepared.
