Suspected Centerville bank robber behind bars after SWAT standoff

BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC 4 NEWS) - Police say a man robbed a Chase bank in Centerville and when they tracked him down he holed up inside his home.

The suspect robbed Chase bank at 315 North Marketplace Drive in Centerville around 3:45 yesterday. An alert stylist at a nearby Dollar Cuts noticed the suspect get into a black dodge truck.

Police had been alerter earlier to an erratic driver, possibly a DUI and the person who called that in were able to give police a partial license plate number. That clue along with witness descriptions led police to the suspects home at 1905 Spring Creek Drive where the truck was parked.

Police attempted to make contact with the man unsuccessfully. The SWAT team was called in. They used a bullhorn and that's when the suspects 12 year old son came to the door. He informed SWAT officers that his dad was sleeping. They took the boy to safety.

The SWAT team eventually used tear gas to get the man out of his home. He was decontaminated and taken to jail.

Police say they are confident that they have their man. Nobody was injured during the bank robbery or the standoff.
