MIDVALE, Utah (AP) - Outdoor retailer Sportsman's Warehouse is closing 23 stores and selling another 15.

Stuart Utgaard, the chairman and CEO of Sportsman's Warehouse Holdings, says on the Sportsman's Warehouse Web site that the company hopes the actions will let the firm go forward as a viable entity with about 2,300 employees.

The company announced the sales and closures on Tuesday. Four stores in Utah - in Midvale, Provo, Riverdale and St. George - are not included in the 23 closures or the 15 sales to UFA Cooperative Ltd. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Sportsman's Warehouse has stores in 29 states, selling gear for hunting, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities.

A call to Sportsman's Warehouse headquarters was not immediately returned on Wednesday.

I had hoped the local store here in Columbia,South Carolina was closing and being replaced with a Gander Mountain or Cabellas. This store is the worst sporting goods store I have ever went to. The people at the firearms counter are rude. My freinds and I al have CWPs. There are times when we have stopped at that store I thought one of my friends was going to draw domn and shoot one of the idiots they have on the counter there. I don't know where they hired that brain dead trash that works there, but I am GLAD those idiots will be laid off for a little while anyway. It is shameful that people act that way. The store is a nice building and the clothes and firearms seem to be first rate. It shows that someone worked very hard to set the place up. They just dropped the ball when they hired a bunch of trailer trash rednecks to man the counter i get the feeling some of these people are on some sort of work release program from a prison or something like that, but I didn't think they would allow a convicted feonaround guns.....Dissatisfied Dave
