SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) Some Mormon women across Utah wore clothes not normally worn to church Sunday: pants. It's all part of a new Mormon feminist group asking LDS women to wear pants to church to promote more gender equality in the church.

To see how many LDS women really did-- look no further than social media. On Twitter many women tweeted pictures of their ensembles with the hashtag "PantsToChurch".

Jenna Cole tweeted, “Gave the closing prayer at sacrament wearing pants. Bishop said he was glad to see me there.”

“Christine Cline” wrote, “Glad I have a family who supports me in wearing #pantstochurch.”

The pants protest was sparked by a new, self described Mormon feminist group called "All Enlisted". The group first started the campaign on its Facebook page, but that had to be taken down after someone made death threats.

A screen shot of the original page included this comment: "every single person who is a minority activist should be shot .. in the face … point blank … get over yourselves …."

A new "Wear Pants to Church” Facebook page took its place shortly after, already having 1,700 “likes”.

But not all on social media are as ready to "like" the idea of wearing pants to church.

Melia Clegg tweets, “i've done my research and i think it's ridiculous.” Ashley Rose Reeves posts, “i dont feel the need to wear #pantstochurch to feel like i am valued.”

As for the church, it sent ABC 4 this statement: "Generally church members are encouraged to wear their best clothing as a sign of respect for the savior, but we don't counsel people beyond that."

Wear pants to church. If they feel the need to do this to make a point, go ahead. But, I think most of the rest of the country is focused on something a little more important. Glad to know the "Pants Brigade" has their priorities straight. All they do is look silly and align themselves with other silly people. Pointless to nth degree.

Such a newsworthy story. I'm so glad these hard-hitting issues are getting airtime, seeing as there really isn't anything else going on in the world worth reporting on.

Wearing pants to church wasn't just about protest. I wore pants out of support. My reasons were different than the mainstream agenda of gender equality within the church. If you'd like to hear my take (to go along with the picture of me that you showed on the segment), read it on my blog http://www.cuteculturechick.com/2012/12/wearing-pants-to-churchon-sunday/
