DUGWAY, Utah (AP) - A special forces soldier was seriously injured when a grenade exploded at Dugway Proving Ground.

Dugway Proving Ground spokeswoman Paula Nicholson says the Saturday incident happened after the soldier pulled the pin on a grenade and it exploded. The soldier was part of an Army special forces unit from Fort Bragg, N.C. Nicholson says the soldiers are training in Utah before deploying to Afghanistan.

Nicholson says the soldier was flown to University Hospital at the University of Utah.

Nicholson didn't immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press on Tuesday.
