SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Hundreds of families said farewell to cherished Utah Soldiers Wednesday, sending them on their way to Afghanistan. In the sea of tears, a special moment as a soldier asked a very important question.

Kerri Hampton can't call Daniel Murdock her boyfriend anymore. He proposed to her just minutes before he boarded a plane for Texas, the start of his ten month deployment to Afghanistan.

Before the soldiers left, Company commanders were going to speak to everyone at the Army National Guard Base. But first Kerri was called onto the stage, she had no idea what was going on.

Kerri said, "I didn't know why I was up there. Maybe Daniel was getting promoted or something, and then the next thing I know he was on the ground and he was shaking."

Daniel shook off the nerves and asked his girlfriend the all important question, "will you marry me?"

Kerri said yes, immediately!

But the moment of joy didn't last long, she then had to say goodbye to her new fiance for ten months.

Although Kerri knows this will be tough, she told ABC4 the ring on her finger and the wedding planning will definitely help.
