SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Republican Sen. Mike Lee is urging Utah lawmakers to assert their rights to access public lands within the state and stand strong against the overreach of the federal government.
Lee says revenues from the development of the federal lands could be used to make the state's education system the best in the country. Currently, the state is among the lowest for per-pupil spending.
Lee says the federal government doesn't have the right to dictate the healthcare decisions for people or detain American citizens indefinitely.
Lee is speaking separately on Thursday to the House and Senate. He is also taking questions from lawmakers and delivering a 500-page report on his activities during the past year to each member.
