SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A bill allowing school districts to sell advertising space on the sides of their school buses was rejected on Friday.
Utah Representative Jim Bird hoped the bus ads would bring in money for cash strapped school districts. The bill was endorsed by the Utah School Board Association, but members of the House Education committee feared people would assume the ads were endorsed by schools. Others thought students might be exposed to inappropriate ads.
Six other states in the U.S. are already allowing school buses to provide advertising space. However, Utah will not follow at this time.
