SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Saying it's cold outside is simply an understatement right now. Temperatures in Utah are breaking records and closing in on hitting historic lows.
The temperature dropped below 0 degrees at the Salt Lake International Airport overnight. The last time that happened was on Jan. 22, 2008, when it was -2 degrees.
Monday's forecast is chilly and icy as well, with a high of 13 degrees. That's the coldest high temperature since Dec. 1990.
Brian McInerney, National Weather Service Hydrologist, told ABC 4 News; "We have been colder than normal every day. Up to 22 degrees below what where we should be yesterday."
Basically it has been nearly five years since it has been this cold in the Salt Lake Valley.
But the numbers in Salt Lake City look comparatively warm for other communities around the state.
Monday morning it hit a shocking -46 degrees in Peter Sinks. -26 degrees in Randolph. -29 in Wellington.
Utah is stuck in this cold snap and unfortunately there isn't an end in sight, but it looks like the inversion will return this week.
