SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A recently retired FBI agent faces arraignment on charges of trying to derail a federal investigation into a defense contract scandal.
Defense lawyers say Robert Lustyik will plead not guilty Tuesday to charges of fraud, conspiracy and obstruction of justice in federal court in Salt Lake City.
The former White Plains, N.Y.-based counterintelligence officer is accused of trying to sidetrack an investigation into $54 million in Army contracts that were awarded to a Boston-based company.
Three others, including a retired Army lieutenant colonel, have been charged with using insider bidding to win the contracts to supply Afghan commandos with weapons.
The case broke in Utah when one of the company's associates raised suspicions by taking large amounts of cash out of a St. George credit union.
