Real Salt Lake wins 3rd straight at home

SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Alvaro Saborio scored two goals to help Real Salt Lake beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Friday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

RSL improved to 13-7-3 with its third straight home victory to move within a point of Western Conference rival San Jose for the best record in the league.

Saborio scored his first goal on a penalty kick, after Jay DeMerit fouled Kyle Beckerman in the box in the 32nd minute.

Then, after Darren Mattocks leveled the match for Vancouver with a goal in the 52nd minute, Saborio struck again with a header off of a beautiful pass from Javier Morales.

Saborio now has a team-high 13 goals on the season.

RSL next plays Herediano of Costa Rica in a CONCACAF game July 31st.
