PROVO CANYON, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A 30-year-old woman was transported by medical helicopter after she fell 35-feet while hiking Saturday morning.
Sgt. Tom Hodgson with Utah County Search and Rescue tells ABC 4 News that the woman was hiking Bridalveil Falls in Provo canyon around 6:30 a.m. with her boyfriend. After some time the victim’s boyfriend walked down to the car to wait for her but she never came back down the trail. The man called 911.
A separate group of hikers heard the woman scream and began to search for her. They were able to locate the woman in a steep area and called 911.
Utah County Search and Rescue and North Fork Emergency Services responded and located the woman. Officials say that the woman fell 35-feet and then tumbled another 60-feet. She landed on a bed of rocks that ultimately stopped her fall. Several station points had to be established to safely carry the woman down the mountain.
After a several hour rescue the woman was brought down to the parking lot at the head of the trail around 1:30 p.m. She was transported by Life Flight to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Officials say that the area of rocks the victim fell on ultimately saved her from tumbling another 125-feet. She is expected to be ok.
