LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Cache County Sheriff’s Office has completed their investigation in the death of Tim Andrus, and have determined that his death was accidental.
Investigators say Andrus had a knife in a defective over-the-shoulder sheath, and witnesses say he was having problems earlier that day securing the knife.
Police say Tim was “wrestling” with an acquaintance at a mountain man rendezvous and his own knife created the wound in the soft tissue of his chest.
Investigators say the knife went into Andrus' body at a 45 degree angle at a depth of approximately 2.25” piercing his heart. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical exam collaborated with the report of eye witnesses that the injury was the result of an accident.
“The family was relieved to know that no one had intentionally hurt him” Lt. Bilodeau stated.
Andrus' funeral has been scheduled for May 28, 2009 in Logan Utah.
