150 homes are being led back in.
Families can return to their homes that reside west of Country Manor Lane from 300 North South to Oak Hill Drive and West to Moon Lane.
ALPINE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – While the “Quail Fire” burns through Alpine homeowners’ backyards, many people living the 80 evacuated homes are sharing their stories of worry and concern.
Watching the walls of flames and smoke fill the Alpine mountainside, it immediately put homeowners who live nearby into a panic.
“It was pretty scary,” said Anne McEvoy.
“When I saw the flames and smoke I was beside myself, I was more scared than I ever felt,” said Lauren Mickelsen, Evacuee.
As responders rushed to help, and fire crews fought flames from the air, some had little time to get out.
“I live up here, I just want to grab something out of my house,” said Mickelsen. “He said, ‘Okay you’ve got 10-15 minutes, you’ve got to get in and get out.”
The Patterson family, who has the most visible house on the hill, could only watch through a camera lens to see if they still had a home.
“Miraculously, it’s there. You can see smoke and fire all around it, and it’s still standing,” said James Patterson, Evacuee.
“I’m really just thankful and grateful,” said Barbie Patterson, Evacuee.
Others evacuated families had no choice but to wait.
“Right now my heart is going a million miles an hour. I want to say I’m nervous, but it’s more antsy, more just wanting to get up there,” said Paul Reay, Evacuee.
Some sought shelter at a center set up by the Red Cross.
“It’s nice to have some place to come where it’s cool, in the shade, where you’re not stuck in a hot car all day,” said Janet Cline, Evacuee.
Although some know firefighters saved their homes, Tuesday night many are waiting for word on when they can go back.
