SALT LAKE (ABC 4 News) - "The List" of purported illegal immigrants is also catching the
attention of Governor Gary Herbert.
He's now ordering some state agencies to see if "The List" was leaked from their records.
The governor, though, isn't the only elected official speaking out.
Utah State Representative Neil Hansen isn't just concerned about how
"The List" was put together.
He also worries that it will just fan the immigration flames higher and could even lead to vigilantes.
He wondered out loud to ABC 4,
“Does it then become an uprising between illegals and the legals?
I mean you see a civil war all over again. Is that what we want in
our country?"
Hansen wants Attorney General Mark Shurtleff to get involved.
"I think the attorney general probably out to look at the list and determine whether laws have been broken."
And while Hansen is calling on the attorney general to step in, he's calling out those who made "The List."
He wants them to step forward.
"Here's somebody accusing people of being illegals and yet they’re
not willing to put their name on this. It almost seems cowardice."
ABC 4 News has also learned the governor will hold his long awaited immigration summit on July 20th.
It will be interesting to see if he adds "The List" to his list of issues to be addressed.
