WASATCH COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The search will resume Tuesday morning for a missing boater on Strawberry Reservoir. Search and rescue crews in Wasatch County are looking for the body of a man who may have drowned on Memorial Day.
At about 8:00 p.m. Monday night, police got a call for an emergency on Strawberry Reservoir. Callers said three men from a group of boaters had jumped into the water and needed help. It's not clear if they themselves were drinking, but ABC 4 was told alcohol was involved. Two of those men got picked up by passing boaters, but so far the third man has not been found.
"At this point we have searched everything that we can, both the shorelines as well as the water,” said Sheriff Todd Bonner, Wasatch Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue crews called off the search for the night, ABC 4 was told they plan to be back out on the water at about 7 or 8 o’clock Tuesday morning.
Rescue crews later identified the missing man as 26-year-old Christopher Tyler Barton.
According to witnesses, Barton either fell or jumped off the front bow of a pontoon boat as it was going forward. His companions tried to throw life jackets to him, but Barton went between the pontoons and disappeared under the water. His companions did not know if Barton was hit by the boat propeller as the boat passed over him.
The search resumed later Tuesday morning, but Barton was not located by midday.
