SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - As we first reported on Twitter - Salt Lake County's District Attorney tells ABC 4 that no criminal charges will be filed against UHP Trooper Lisa Steed.
The former Trooper of the Year was being investigated by the Utah County Attorney at the request
of the state's attorney general and the Utah Highway Patrol.
The probe was prompted by conflicting testimony given by Steed during a recent DUI case.
The findings were turned over to Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill.
Monday morning, Gill told ABC 4 that the Utah County Attorney concluded that no charges should be filed.
Gill agreed.
But this doesn't mean smooth sailing ahead for Trooper Steed.
Steed was taken off the streets following her testimony in that DUI case.
She now faces an internal review by the UHP.
Trooper Steed has been in and out of the headlines recently.
In addition to being named Utah's first female Trooper of the Year, Steed has also seen her
share of controversy.
The state settled a lawsuit stemming from an incident in which Steed had tasered a man while he was still in his car.
A $40,000 settlement was paid to the man who tasered.
She also made a DUI arrest on a man on a motorized bike.
The man had cerebral palsy and epilepsy and took medication for his ailments.
In addition, Steed has been reprimanded twice and several judges have now questioned
her credibility.
Finally, in light of these developments, the Davis County Attorney has previously
expressed concerns about prosecuting Steed's case.
Now, a UHP spokesman tells ABC 4 that there is no timeline for completing its internal
review.
Also, that Trooper Steed will remain off the streets until it is completed.
ABC 4 will have more on this developing story.
