SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 NEWS) - Despite initial reports the suspected shooter 39 year old Major Nidal Hasan is alive. The death toll has grown to 13 and 30 injured during the Fort Hood shooting spree.

Reports say that Nasan had been on the radar for about 6 months following some comments posted on the internet about suicide bombings. He had recently hired an attorney to try and get him out of the military. His family says deploying to Iraq was his worst nightmare. He had been trying to get out of the military for years and was reportly angry about the U.S. being in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are also hearing that before the shooting began he stood up in the crowded room and yelled, "God is great" in Arabic and starting shooting. Hasan is devout Muslim and had been in trouble for preaching to patients at the clinic.

Reports also say that Hasan had a drinking problem and had been in trouble and counseled in the past for his attitude and actions.

Investigators evacuated the entire apartment complex after searching his unit. They aren't saying what they found.

Fort Hood has suffered more military casualties than any other base in the country. Currently, there are 15-thousand soldiers serving in Iraq.

Hasan is in stable condition surrounded by heavy security.

Muslims across the country have condemned what happened. New information continues to pour in.
