Hyrum, Utah (ABC 4 News)- Mountain Crest High School has canceled classes today after receiving a threat of a person with a gun entering the school today.
The school principal tells ABC 4 that received the threat yesterday and could not confirm or deny the validity of the threat. While she did not go into specifics she did tell us that police are investigating the situation.
Today was scheduled to be the last day before Christmas vacation for the school.
Other schools have also tightened security today. In West Jordan police have ramped up patrols of the schools under no specific threat.
Mountain Crest wasn't the only school dealing with gun rumors. West Jordan Police stepped up their presence at High Schools and Middle Schools after threats of a gun inside a school. Students told ABC4 News Copper Hills High School administration sent out an email addressing the rumors and the fact they were false.
West Jordan Police Chief Doug Diamond told ABC4 News they added the patrols to help the students and parents feel safe. Chief Diamond said, "We want the students to feel comfortable and that the police department is on top of things."
Chief Diamond said they had looked into every rumor and none of them appeared to be true.
There was also a threat at Syracuse High School. Police looked through the school building Friday morning and could not find anything to raise any concerns.
