PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A mother has been charged after leaving three children in a car parked in a mall parking lot.

On Monday, a man went to the Provo Towne Center mall at about 3:25pm.

As he is walking from his car to the mall, he notices three children in a parked van that was not running.

At 4:30 pm, he walks out and sees the van still there with the three kids. Noting the cold temperature, he calls Provo police.

Police arrive and talk with the kids, who had been in the car for about an hour and a half.

The three boys are between 8 years old and 2 years old.

The two older boys were okay, however the two year old was clearly cold and uncomfortable. Police found the temperature at 10 degrees. They put the kids in the patrol car to get warm.

Police paged children’s parents over the intercom and at about 5:20 pm, the mother was identified.

Provo police referred charges to the city prosecutor, who charged the mother with leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.

Provo Police want to warn all parents to never do this, especially in this weather.

The mother should be charged with child abuse! And then she should be left for a few hours in a vehicle, with no engine running, in single digit weather. Those poor kids.
