ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The LDS missionary who was mauled by lions in Guatemala is back home in Utah.

Twenty-year old Elder Paul Oakey was visiting a zoo in a rural part of the country when he was attacked by two lions as he posed for pictures near their cage.

Family members say one lion grabbed his leg, and the other bit down on his arm.

He's had several surgies surgeries since the attack.

Oakey's mother told ABC 4 News the doctors even found bone and teeth fragments in his wounds.

Oakey was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the past 20 months.

Doctors are hopeful that Elder Oakey will be able to have full use of his arm and legs, despite some nerve and vascular damage.
