SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The majority of meth busts in Utah have ties to the Mexican drug cartels.

These cartels are growing.

The cartels are shipping up meth from Mexico because the number of meth labs in Utah is declining, according to District Attorney, Sue Thomas.

She says regulations on ingredients used to make meth are making it harder to produce the drug locally.

"There is a tremendous amount of meth being smuggled across the boarder into our country from Mexico and the bulk of the meth that we see here in Salt Lake is all coming from Mexico," said Thomas.

She says as the number of drug cartels in Utah increases so will the violence.
