SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A challenger to U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson thinks she may be able to force the five-term incumbent into a June primary.
Claudia Wright also says she thinks there's an "outside chance" she could get enough support at Saturday's state Democratic convention to oust Matheson altogether.
Wright is a 61-year-old retired school teacher of 31 years. She was among those who responded to a Craigslist ad looking for a Democratic challenger to Matheson.
Wright says Matheson has let down Democrats and progressives in several ways.
Matheson has never faced a convention challenge nor has he been in a primary.
He doesn't think that will change this year. Though he won't rule out a primary fight, Matheson says he's confident he'll be the Democratic nominee for the seat.
