SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 47-year-old East Carbon man has pleaded guilty in a drunken driving crash that killed two Sandy women last year.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Darin Scott Hawkinson entered the pleas Friday to two counts of negligent automobile homicide after the Sept. 23 crash that killed 64-year-old Sharlene Atkinson and 63-year-old Lynnette Hulse.
The charges were reduced and a speeding charge was dropped as part of a plea deal.
Prosecutors say Hawkinson was driving under the influence on U.S. Highway 6 near Price when he swerved into oncoming lanes. His car pushed the car into the path of a semi-truck.
The two women were sitting in the back of the car that was hit by the truck.
Hawkinson faces up to 10 years in prison at sentencing Aug. 13.
