CENTERVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Timothy William Bothell, 43, was arrested Thursday by Centerville Police and booked on two first degree felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, as well as four counts of class A misdemeanor charges of lewdness involving a child.
According to Centerville Police, Bothell is a resident of Centerville who served on a local stake High Council for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the time of his arrest, and was also employed by the LDS Church.
Officials say the two female victims in this case, ages 13 and 11, are both friends of the family, and that the alleged assaults and lewdness crimes took place in Bothell's home beginning near Christmas time of 2011.
Assistant Chief Paul Child of Centerville Police also reported that Bothell was confronted by his wife last week and reportedly admitted to inappropriate sexual contact with at least one of the victims. Bothell himself contacted Child Protective Services, who then contacted Centerville Police. Both victims were interviewed during the week, and Bothell was interviewed Thursday and admitted to the charges.
Reports indicate Bothell touched the genitals of the 13-year-old girl while she slept at his home sometime around Christmas 2011. Bothell is then said to have placed his penis in the same 13-year-old's hand a short time later, and the victim woke while this was occurring. Both girls say Bothell exposed his genitals to them on several different occasions, and one of the victims said she has seen Bothell naked approximately twelve different times.
According to Bothell himself, he admits accidentally exposing himself to the girls eight times.
Police say the aggravated charge is alleged because Bothell holds a Position of Trust in relationship to the victims.
