SALT LAKE CITY
JUNE 10th, 2009
This has been the scene day after day: Florida-like skies with an army of thunderstorms marching across the valley. Spot floods too.
The weather brings good news for our water supply. Brian McInerney, a Hydrologist at the National Weather Service, indicated that the reservoirs are doing well. "People have been using rainwater to water their lawns, rather than their sprinkler systems, easing the drainage off the reservoirs. They are in excellent shape"
The bad news is that rainfall so far this month, at 3x what it should be, is causing the flooding we saw today in Herriman, and it just won't stop.
"What we're seeing in June is day after day with measurable rain and there is more on the way" said McInerney. "And of course, that makes lawns happy, but even there we have a double edged sword."
The only problem to all this beautiful greenery is that the lush foliage may dry out, and turn to brush that could catch fire later this summer.
