SALT LAKE CITY - Today is Cyber Monday, it's the online equivalent to Black Friday and for Overstock.com it's their Super Bowl Sunday. Their 680-thousand square foot warehouse is home to everything from earrings to sofas and on an average day, Overstock.com will ship out 4-thousand packages. But this is no average day. Since 2005, today has been known as Cyber Monday.
Carroll Morale is the VP of Logistics for Overstock.com. He says it's tough to tell exactly how much inventory they're moving this year but it's certainly more than last year.
Overstock.com has been building up to Cyber Monday for more than a week in an effort to get thousands of orders out within 24 hours and for about 25-30% of the orders, they will go out the same day! It takes a well oiled machine of people to get orders picked, packed, and shipped around the world. And to do that, you have to be stocked up and ready for the big day.
Morale says the key is to know the consumer and to anticipate the stock you'll need to fill the orders.
Shoes, toys, clothes, it all absolutely, positively has to get there overnight. WAIT, wrong company but you get the idea. Consumers want their cyber purchases at cyber speed and Overstock.com is just one of the companies trying to get that done.
