EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A mini home makeover was revealed to an Eagle Mountain teenager whose bedroom was trashed and vandalized by burglars.

Kira Butler had no idea why strangers were inside her house.

The 16-year-old was taken to her upstairs bedroom where volunteers revealed a renovated room.

“This is awesome,” the teen said.

The mini home makeover was an early Christmas present for Kira and her family. The Butler household was broken into and vandalized three weeks ago.

Neighbors gathered about 70 volunteers who donated their time, money and effort to transform the damaged rooms.

Volunteers painted Kira’s room purple. The travel themed room showcased places like New York City, Paris and Rome.

“When you come in here we don’t want you to think of the devastation,” Loretta Brower said.

Another volunteer agreed.

“We want you to think of your goals and all the places you want to go,” Margene Nielsen said.

The teen was brought to tears when she saw the special touches to her new bedroom. She hopes to visit all the places displayed in her room and said it was one Christmas surprise she’ll never forget.
