SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - There's a dangerous insect problem that is hitting the Wasatch front, as the poisonous Hobo Spiders are heading indoors to mate. It's been brewing for years and the Hobo spider population has been increasing rapidly.  But to make matters worse, they're almost impossible to identify.

They are small, swift and most definitely poisonous. Joy Bossi, from ABC4's "Good Things Utah" said, "I would hate to run into the hobo spider they create a big flesh wound that doesn't heal."

The first place to avoid the Hobo spider is in the garden. "Some gardeners hate gloves but without them, they'll come getya!" said Bossi.

With the cooler weather coming it appears that they are heading indoors to mate, but there are ways to prevent them from coming in.

Carl Wilson from Extermiman, a local exterminating company said "There are a lot of homeowner options, but you may want an exterminator to come."

In addition to chemical control, you can put out those sticky mouse traps.  It stops spiders and shows you how much activity is going on.

The spider numbers will start to drop again in November.

The spider is very hard to identify, appearing much like any other small funnel shaped spider. It is best to capture it if you fear you have been bitten so you can identify the spider.

Some local resources include Carl Wilson and Del Rich.
