CRYSTAL LAKE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A 17-year-old boy missing in the Summit County back country since Monday night has been found in good condition.
Police say Joseph Schellenberg, missing near Crystal Lake, was found just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, nearly 12 miles from his campsite.
Schellenberg, from Rexburg, Idaho, was last seen Monday night by members of his camping party, according to Summit County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Ron Bridge
Family members told police the boy suffers from a diminished mental capacity and they were afraid he wandered off and became lost.
According to Bridge, Schellenberg and his family were camping in the Crystal Lake area at the Long Lake Campground which is accessible only by foot.
Bridge said that the boy is described by family members as mentally challenged, operating on a 6 to 7 year level. He was last seen wearing a brown flannel shirt with blue jeans at the camp site at Long Lake Campground off the Mirror Lake Highway.
Besides Summit County deputies, rescuers on foot and on horseback also worked to find the Schellenberg. A Life Flight helicopter was also deployed for the search.
No additional volunteers were requested to join the search.
