FILLMORE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The former mayor of Fillmore was sentenced to 3 years to life in prison for his conviction over 5 counts of alleged teen sexual abuse and rape.

In August, 61-year-old Keith Gillins accepted a plea deal. He was charged in June with two counts of unlawful sex with a 16 or 17 year-old.

Police say the offenses happened last November while he was a teacher at Millard High School.

Those original charges were replaced by even more, including four counts of rape and eleven counts of forcible sexual assault in July.

The victim was a teen girl, and prosecutors say the abuse occurred in Millard and Juab Counties.

Gillins' plea deal involves 5 counts, 3 in Millard County and 2 in Juab. The deal called for 3-years-to life sentences for all 5 counts.
