SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 NEWS) – The United States Department of Justice has confirmed that they are investigating the allegations against Attorney General John Swallow.
In a statement released Friday, the United States Attorney’s confirms they, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, have been investigating the allegations.
The allegations against Swallow were made by St. George businessman Jeremy Johnson.
Johnson is facing federal charges for bank fraud and money laundering but an expected plea bargain fell through and Johnson made public his accusations of Swallow.
Johnson alleges Swallow helped broker a deal in 2010 to help Johnson get out from a federal investigation.
Johnson claimed he paid Swallow nearly a quarter of a million dollars to persuade U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to stop the federal investigation. It's an allegation Reid's office denies.
