WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) -- A sad ending for a couple stranded in the wild in Washington County.

The couple was driving north on Shoal Creek Rd. on Tuesday, near Enterprise Reservoir, and the vehicle became stranded due to weather conditions.

The couple got out of the car and began walking towards the reservoir.

The female stopped and could not continue. The man continued on to seek assistance.

The man, Michael Meunier, was found near the reservoir by people on snow mobiles, who contacted police.

Volunteers with Washington County Search and Rescue and the Enterprise City Fire/Rescue/EMS responded and assisted deputies in locating the stranded vehicle and female passenger.

The female, Darlene Dietrich, was found deceased in the snow approximately three miles north of the vehicle on the Shoal Creek Road.

Dietrich’s death is being treated as an accident.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work closely with the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner and are waiting autopsy results. The case is still under investigation.

The man did make her a make shift shelter. He dug a ditch out next to a big rock so the wind would go over her while he looked for help. He laid with her and kept her warm for awhile and she begged him to go look for help because he was the only one able to do it. She wasn't able to walk. He had to carry her for some of the way. Their only hope was for him to keep going at that point. They left the car also after they discussed together what they should do. Noone was forced to leave the car. It was all by choice because of the idea that the main road was only 2.5 miles away. He also said if she knew she was going to die then he was going to stay with her and die with her but she told him to keep going and try to save both of them if not just himself. He did everything he could. I don't know who a lot of you people think you are but it's not right to assume and judge a person when you don't know the story. Unless you were there you don't know what was right and wrong. He did not want her to die and I know for a fact he would take that trip back In a heartbeat. Darlene will be missed greatly. She was an amazing lady. She had a great sense of humor and was the sweetest woman to be around. RIP Darlene.

Sad, but you'd think that people would learn. Amazing that he left her and then didn't go back til next day.
