SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) - The Utah Transit Authority is cutting bus service to cover the increased costs of new light rail lines.
UTA officials say the changes will begin in early August when two TRAX lines in western Salt Lake County begin operating.
Bus service on Sundays will be reduced but not completely eliminated. Some weekday routes will be changed to accommodate the expanded TRAX service.
Multiple bus routes popular with commuters to Salt Lake City will have more limited schedules. The agency originally considered eliminating some of those routes.
The agency received more than 900 comments on their proposed service changes during a public comment period.
Spokesman Gerry Carpenter says UTA has to make the changes because of a significant drop in revenue from sales tax.
