Black Friday begins on Thanksgiving: What you need to know before you go
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 NEWS) - Move over black Friday here comes blue Thursday! More retailers opening thier doors on Thanksgiving and other stores are providing shopping lists of safety and deals.
Several stores opened their doors today to lure in more customers and to stop the stampede of anxious shoppers.
Black Friday certainly lived up to it's name last year. It's hard to watch as emergency workers tried to save a New York Walmart worker who was trampled to death. Stores are trying to avoid the dangers by opening earlier.
For the first time every Walmart will keep all of it's stores open 24 hours. But other retailers, like Kmart have opened thier door on Thanksgiving for years.
Kmart Store Manager, Rick Mercurio says, "We are ahead of the game. We give out numbers and people don't have to rush or run to get the door buster. We work on a first come first serve basis, so it's very fair."
The ultimate tool to black Friday success is knowing where to find the deals and I'm not just talking about which stores offer what. I'm talking about where the items are located inside the store. This year stores like Target, Sears, Kmart and Walmart have put maps online leading shoppers to door busters. For instance, Walmart puts some of the electronics in the meat department!
If waiting in long lines at 3 a.m. in 20 degree weather isn't your thing...I've got some good news for you. More retailers are offering black Friday specials online. But, it's a good idea to search the web and compare prices to see if you really are getting a door buster deal.
The bottom line, if black Friday is your thing just remember your manners!
