SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Salt Lake City is center stage of a new reality TV show, and Thursday is the season premiere.
The show is called
Breaking Pointe. It airs on ABC 4’s sister station CW 30 and follows the lives of ballet dancers in Utah.
It's one of the hottest new shows this summer.
"We live these crazy lives," said Adam Sklute, Ballet West Artistic Director.
And the spotlight is all on dancers from Utah's Ballet West.
"You're going to learn what it's really like," said Allison Debona, Ballet West Demi-Soloist.
Filmed from Salt Lake's Capitol Theatre, Breaking Pointe follows the lives of 10 dancers both on and off the stage. Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute tells ABC 4 it's perfect for reality TV.
"Our world is dramatic enough, we don't need any drama to make it more interesting," said Sklute.
Featured performer Allison Debona said it pulls back the curtain on the ballet's cut throat competition –
"I mean it's hard, you know you want to be happy for your friends, but you want to be, you're essentially going after the same roles," said Debona.
- and you meet the most unlikely dancers.
"Ronnie Underwood. He's a real ladies man. He always working on my girls," said Sklute.
"I do well with the ladies yah. I definitely do. You can take that however you want to take it,” said Ronnie Underwood, Ballet West Soloist.
"Would the ladies agree with you?” Carlson asked.
“At least 50%. That's pretty good odds, that's pretty good odds," said Underwood.
Produced by the same people from Top Gear, and Dancing With The Stars, staff said Breaking Pointe will show the agony of defeat, and the price of perfection.
"They're going to learn the incredible physical drama these people go through, the athleticism, they have to deal with the artistry the passion that they have to have," said Sklute.
That passion begins Thursday.
From what people at BBC Worldwide Productions tell ABC 4 there's going to be six episodes. The first one airs Thursday night on CW 30 at 7:00 p.m.
