PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A team of thirteen mechanical engineering students from Brigham Young University hopes its created the car of the future. It's a formula hybrid race car.
The car can go zero to sixty miles an hour in just about three and a half seconds. It's top speed is 74 miles an hour.
The formula race car will go up against about 30 others at a competition in New Hampshire soon. BYU students call it the "Mt. Everest" of competitions. They'll be competing against students from all over the United States as well as countries such as Russia and India.
But, the BYU students hope they have a leg up on the competition. They say they've designed a system that allows them to use power from the car's engine and generators and battery simultaneously. They believe that's something that's new, that people have had a lot of problems doing in the past.
