HYDE PARK, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Hyde Park City Council passed an ordinance in favor of allowing beer sales at the once dry Maverick gas station.

A group against alcohol sales immediately handed out a petition to block the sale of beer. The effort resulted in the collection of about 525 signatures.

The gas station will no be allowed to sale beer until after the November 2013 election if Cache County officials can verify about 330 of the signatures.

City Mayor Bryan Cox says the issue is Cache County sales and tax revenue because gas stations about a mile away from the dry Maverick station can sell beer.
