SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Mitt Romney's presidential campaign continues to shine a big spotlight on the LDS Church.
And Friday night, ABC News will air a special two hour program involving a prominent Mormon leader.
Heaven.
This is what the ABC special is about.
As Barbara Walters puts it in the trailer for the special, "Mormons see Heaven a little differently than other Christians."
Walters sits down for an extensive interview with Elder William R. Walker of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
Walker tells her, "One of things that distinguishes our belief and our faith is that we don't think you just say I believe in Jesus and you go straight to heaven."
This interview took place recently at an LDS Meetinghouse in Manhattan.
Heaven has been one of ABC News' most popular topics in the last decade and - because of Mitt Romney - this latest version includes a healthy dose of Mormonism.
Walters asks Walker, “Mormons also believe there are not one but three degrees of Heaven. The better the life, the higher point in Heaven you go?”
To which Elder Walker replies, “That’s correct.”
Walters touches upon familiar Mormon beliefs: the three levels of Heaven, with an emphasis on loving others, contributing to society and keeping God's Commandments.
The ABC special also takes viewers inside an LDS Temple, providing rare glimpses of an LDS Celestial Room, prior to its dedication.
Walker says, "It's to remind us that we're on our way back to God. We're on our way back to Heaven. That's our objective.”
The ABC special: "Heaven: Where is it? How do we get there?" will air Friday night at 8:00 p.m. on ABC 4.
