SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Governor Jon Meade Huntsman Jr. was born March 26, 1960 in Palo Alto, California to billionaire businessman and philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr. Governor Huntsman comes from a family of eight brothers and sisters.
Huntsman’s grandfather, David B. Haight was an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1976 until his death in 2004. As a member of LDS church, Huntsman served as a missionary in Taiwan. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Huntsman attended the University of Utah and joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. After transferring from the university, Huntsman earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Huntsman is married to Mary Kaye and has seven children. Their two youngest children are adopted, Gracie Mei from China and Asha Bharati from India.
Huntsman is a keyboard player. In 2005 he performed two songs with REO Speedwagon at the Utah State Fair.
Huntsman has served in various political positions such as, U.S. Ambassador to Singapore during the George H. W. Bush Administration and a deputy U.S. trade representative during the George W. Bush Administration. He won the office of Utah State Governor in 2004.
