DRAPER, Utah (AP) - Utah prison officials say 340 inmates will be awarded high-school degrees in a ceremony this week.
The men and woman will cover their prison garb with gowns and blue or gold caps for a ceremony at Utah State Prison on Wednesday.
Former Brigham Young University and San Francisco 49ers running back Jamal Willis will deliver a keynote speech on overcoming adversity.
Among those taking a prison degree is Jerry Vigil, who is set to be released from prison this fall.
The 38-year-old Vigil says he was too busy being a gang member to graduate from Salt Lake City's West High School.
Vigil says the diploma will help him get a job and set an example for his five children.
